Here's to Your Health, Startups!
Matt Lopez
Here at Skaled, we love a good competition.
We all made some work related resolutions for the New Year, but we also decided January was a great opportunity to start working on ourselves as well — ya know, the people that exist outside of the office.
So as the gyms fill up with the resolution crowds, pounding out miles, pushups and crunches, we thought we’d get in on the fun and challenge ourselves to be healthier, too. Now of course, health and fitness goals should extend past the first few weeks of the New Year, but January does offer a great opportunity to jumpstart your team’s focus on staying healthy and fit.
The benefits of working out and eating right are obvious. People have more energy, they’re happier, and they’re more likely to fend off those nasty colds that are so prevalent this time of year. (They look better too, which certainly can’t hurt.) If your startup team is dragging after the holidays, feeling the effects of all that over-eating and dreading the long winter that still stretches ahead, maybe you could benefit from encouraging each other to work out and eat healthier.
If you ask us, the best way to encourage each other is to desperately want to BEAT each other. So make it a competition!
For the month of January, Skaled team members are tracking their workout days and competing against one another. There will be weekly prizes, and a winner of the month who will receive a $200 credit towards a gym membership. There’s nothing like a little competition to get things going, and prizes are great motivators!
Once everyone has been moving those muscles for a few weeks (and hopefully the subzero temperatures have come to a close) we’ll be signing up for a 5K run as a team. Not only will it be a great opportunity to get outside, it’s also a chance to bond over a challenge together — and a healthy one at that!
We’d love for you to get in on the fun and share your fitness goals or competitions within your startups! If you haven’t discussed health and fitness yet with your team, maybe it’s time to do so! Besides running a competition and entering a race together, you could host weekly, healthy lunches together, take walks on your breaks, commit to skipping the elevator and taking the stairs, or try a yoga class together as a team! There are so many ways to incorporate a healthy lifestyle into your work environment and have fun with your startup in the process.
Give it a try, and let us know how it goes!
