ChatGPT is Changing the Sales Process. Here are Some of My Best Prompts.
Jake Dunlap
“By no means am I saying that AI is perfect. What I am saying is, does it let you skip ahead? Can it get you 80% or more of the way faster? 1000%, yes.”
Today’s session is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to AI and ChatGPT prompts for sales.
But before we get into the tactical, here’s what I want you to think about: The future – and how AI is changing it.
Over the past six weeks or so, I’ve started to really understand the implications of ChatGPT and where our world is headed. And the impact of using chat and AI in every industry, especially in sales.
Another thing to consider is how fast this trend will take hold and affect your day-to-day if it hasn’t already.
The speed at which leaders and frontline need to learn, implement, and use AI is ridiculous.
ChatGPT prompts for sales is just the beginning, as I’ve said, but hopefully, this prompts (pun intended) you to start using the tool and taking AI in your sales process to the next level.
Recap: ChatGPT Prompts for SDRs, Sales, and Account Managers
I’m going to do this recap a little differently from the others. You can watch the recording for more context, but I know you’re here for the examples and steps, so that’s what I’m going to focus on.

The important bits
-
- 3:05 – If you’re starting at a new company, new role, or selling into a new vertical, there are three areas to look at.
-
- 4:50 – Prompt for selling to specific industries and job titles.
-
- 6:25 – The quality of the prompt determines the quality of the output.
- 8:30 – Imagine just starting in a role and knowing nothing about the people or industry you’re trying to set meetings with. There is nothing like ChatGPT to get up to speed on buyer pains.
- 10:47 – There is absolutely no excuse right now not to send personalized content, or at least industry and persona content.
-
- 11:25 – Prompt to have better conversations.
-
- 12:30- Prompt to customize the demo.
-
- 14:46 – Question: have you figured out how to leverage AI bots and wikis for reps to access product knowledge quickly during meetings and follow-ups?
-
- 19:55 – By no means am I saying that AI is perfect. What I am saying is, does it let you skip ahead? Can it get you 80% or more of the way faster? 1000%, yes.
- 24:57 – Question: Any insight on ChatGPT or AI helping focus prospecting?
- 25:25 –Question: Could you do a live example that a BDR could use?
How ChatGPT can get you up to speed as a seller
Imagine you (or a new employee) just started in a role and you knew nothing about the industry and the leaders you need to get in front of. There is no better way to get up to speed and create customized content around buyer pains than with ChatGPT.
Prompt 1
“I sell into HR leaders in manufacturing, a software that costs about 50K per year, and is used by compensation experts to save them time. What issues could I highlight in an email that might make them want to meet?”
The quality of the prompt will determine the quality of the output. For example, in this first prompt, I was specific about the industry, the cost, and the who.
Prompt 2
“For point one, tell me why this is such an issue for HR leaders?”
ChatGPT is not just a search engine on steroids. Each thread is a new learning set that you can continuously build on. Prompt 1 outputted several issues at a high level, but your goal is to learn, so you need to go deeper.
Prompt 3
“Which of these would have the biggest impact on company performance?”
How ChatGPT can help you to have better conversations
Prompts 1-3 can be used to get an SDR up to speed and create better outbound sequences. There is absolutely no excuse right now not to send personalized content, or at least industry and persona content.
AEs can also use the sequence of prompts in the last section and continue to take it further. For example:
Prompt 4
“I had a first meeting with someone where point number 1 around helping with turnover was the most important piece. What should my next step be if they need to loop in finance for a demo?”
Prompt 5
“What areas of my product should I specifically customize to the CFO in the demo?
Think about the average demo and how much better this already is at gearing the conversation toward specific people and roles.

Now it’s your turn. Take the prompts below, personalize them to your company and who you sell to, and see what happens.
My prompt thread for how an SDR can become an industry expert in 45 minutes
Prompt 1:
I am new to a sales development role at (domain) and am tasked with booking meetings with primarily (job title)s and these (job title)s as well. I am working in (X industry), and here are 5 sample domain samples: (insert). Based on this, what are 5 potential priorities for someone in this role?
Prompt 2:
What is the deeper impact to the business in this space due to that issue?
(Repeat this for all priorities.)
Prompt 3:
Knowing the product I sell and the deeper issues with point 1, how could I customize two sentences to how my product solves that problem?
(Repeat for the other 4 priorities.)
Prompt 4:
Great. Who are the top 4 competitors of my company? Here are a few sites to review as well (insert competitors’ sites).
(Refine the answers to the right fit.)
Prompt 5:
Based on the impact that we have for point 1, how might the competitors listed here differentiate against us?
(Ask the same for points 2-5.)
Prompt 6:
Based on what you know of the buyers, our potential impact for point 1, and our competitors’ potential impact for point 1, how would you write a 7-sentence email for us to stand out?
(Repeat for points 2-5, and you can also ask to combine points for one email as well.)
Prompt 7:
Based on all of this, which email set might be most differentiated and specific to this buyer?
My prompt thread for AEs to close more deals
Prompt 1:
I sell a product that you can find at (domain), and we have 4 main value propositions (insert 4 value props). What does (job title) care about most in the (sub-industry) assuming that the economy is not great or may go down?
Prompt 2:
What do they NOT care about in these environments?
Prompt 3:
Based on these two questions, what are the top 2 value propositions that will cause people to buy because they generate the highest ROI?
Prompt 4:
What are 4 questions I can ask (job title) to get them to see that we can solve their top priorities that will make them realize they need the solution?
Prompt 5:
How would I adjust this pitch for the (job title) to get budget approval from a CFO who cares about costs most?
Prompt 6:
What will their biggest objection be that I should add in the proposal to make them comfortable?
Prompt 7:
Based on all of this, what would be the top 10 slides to include in a deck to pitch my services to address both the top priorities and needs of the VP of Sales and also to address the concerns of the VP of Sales.
AI gets you 80% of the way there
As we wrap up, I am not saying that AI is perfect. What I am saying is that it will let you skip ahead. It can get you 80% or more of the way there, faster, by three to four months.
You may not know all the nuances to ask, and neither will ChatGPT, but it’s exponentially better than starting from scratch.
What I was able to pull out in just 5 minutes in the live session, you can do with any other industry and topic. But remember that you have to continue to train each thread on your own nuances and business.
