Skaled's Favorite Startup Blogs
Matt Lopez
There are A LOT of startup blogs out there to explore.
Blogs from founders, VC’s, entrepreneurs, and tech professionals offer platforms for sharing experiences and advice. It’s a way to build community and track our successes and our failures in a transparent, community forum.
It’s no secret that we love blogs (especially our own, thanks for reading by the way!) so we wanted to take today’s post to round up some of our favorites.
From profiling the latest new companies and interviewing founders, to thoughtful analysis on the current landscape for startups and technology, the following sites provide thorough, engaging content that keeps us on top of our game in the startup community.
Check them out and if you have a startup blog of your own, or one you’d like to recommend, please add it to the comment section at the end of this post.
Killer Startups
Killer Startups offers a great opportunity to have your startup profiled on their site. It might take awhile to make it through the list, but their paid option will fast track your article to the headlines in just 48 hours. They don’t just do profiles though — their advice columns are informative and interesting as well, like this one on assessing the strengths and weaknesses of your startup.
Unicorn Free
Amy Hoy, co-founder of Freckle (now called Noko), did software development and design for 11 years until she couldn’t bear to work for other people anymore. Now, she writes a no-nonsense blog about boostrapping and selling your own products, and continues to run Freckle with her husband. Check out this handy post on writing snappier copy to convert readers into buyers.
Nibletz
We find out about lots of great up and coming startups through Nibletz, a blog that bills itself as “The Voice of Startups Everywhere Else”. They’re covering the startup scene from places that are NOT Silicon Valley, and they’re showing the world that there are plenty of other hubs worth watching.
FullStart
Fullstart is a blog by WeWork, a collection of collaborative workspaces for entrepreneurs. It just so happens to be where “we work” and we recently contributed our own post on “How to be Selfish at a Startup” to their blog. They feature daily, compelling content from entrepreneurs and startup founders, from actionable advice to inspiring stories.
Instigator Blog
The Instigator Blog comes from Ben Yoskovitz, the VP of Product at GoInstant and Founding Partner of Year One Labs. He offers candid advice to founders, like “How to Avoid the Post-Funding Trough” and “Don’t Glorify Startup Failure”.
Startup Bros.
The guys behind Startup Bros. have been running businesses and earning money since their friends were playing Nintendo and freeze-tag. They take a cheeky tone to startup discussion but with valuable, actionable tips. Not only are their blog posts helpful and entertaining, their site offers some handy ebooks and other free stuff, like a Marketing Graphics Creator. Check out this infographic on what makes a successful entrepreneur.
Kate Kendall
A young entrepreneur who’s made her mark in Melbourne, San Francisco, and now NYC, Kate Kendall offers honest insight on her experiences in the tech community. Her laundry list of achievements include “Top 100 Influential People of 2011” from The Age Melbourne Magazine and “30 Under 30 Digital Shortlist”, from B&T. In her latest post, “The Joys and Benefits of Keeping a Low Profile Online” she admits to having a personal brand and hating it, and why she’s much quieter online these days.
