A short recap on social media news.
More time in the house can mean more time on your phone. Watching videos, scrolling through social media, or texting can take up most of your day.
So, if you’re spending so much time on your accounts, why are you still following people you don’t like?
This week Jake encourages you all to just unfollow people you don’t want to see. People you don’t like, whose content you find annoying, whose posts aren’t relevant to you. Just unfollow them!
This will free up your feed to actually consume the content you want (and faster). Which also means less time on your phone.
Watch this week’s The Recap with CEO Jake Dunlap:
Jake’s Take | Thank You, Next
We’ve heard all of the reservations about unfollowing someone before. “They’ll notice! They’ll take it personally! My engagement will go down!”
We’ve got news for you. Your social media is your sanctuary. It’s not worth continuing to follow someone you don’t want to follow just because they “like” your content. As Jake/the French say, “[email protected]#* a like!”
Build an audience who comments and creates conversation based on your content. Curate a group of people that make you happy.
In Social Media News
Major companies have pulled advertisements from Facebook in a month-long boycott against the social media platform. Patagonia, Coca-Cola, and Ford are just a number of companies that are demanding Facebook monitor hate-speech more aggressively.
Even Derrick Johnson, president of the NAACP called Facebook a “breeding ground for hate.”
In response to this, Mark Zuckerberg live-streamed part of an employee meeting. Later, Facebook’s communications chief, Nick Clegg published an open letter called “Facebook does not benefit from hate.”
Jake will be on vacation next week, but don’t worry, you’ll still be getting Recap #104 LIVE on Friday morning. We encourage everyone to spend some time offline this week to practice self-care and prepare for the next!
